The Dalí Theatre-Museum, the largest surrealistic object in the world, occupies the building of the former Municipal Theatre, a 19th century construction which was destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War. On its ruins, Dalí decided to create his museum.
Thanks to Salvador Dali, who was born in 1904 in an unremarkable town, today this place has attracted many admirers of the great surrealist and hoaxer. All tourists visiting Figueres sure to visit the mysterious museum, conceived and created by the artist as a gift hometown. The opening of this fantastic places on September 28, 1974. Dali Museum is located in the former building of the theater, and all of its interior spaces, as well as external courtyards linked by a single artist intention unimaginable. He liked to say that visitors to his museum to feel detached from the real world, and thanks to the extraordinary imagination of Dali, this effect was successfully achieved.
