All the pictures you see below you sure sound, but … not missing something? In this collection of photographs called “Hidden Spaces”, the Spanish artist José Manuel Ballester takes classical paintings and clears the humans who appear in them, revealing objects and spaces that go unnoticed (hence the name).
Combining classical art with modern technologies, the artist invites the viewer to see these masterpieces from another point of view, and interpret what could be the sequel of the story is already known. In each frame, the disappearance of his characters cause a different effect: in some tracks of a tragedy, or the consequences of a drama, with abandoned as only witnesses to events occurring objects are given. In other cases, you simply ask where the characters will be gone. Anyway, whatever the chart note, one thing is sure: these newfound empty spaces are open to interpretation and discoveries.
