Catherine Deneuve sells her £3.2m French home
Catherine Deneuve name is synonymous with our idea of French glamour and cool beauty. It even sounds haughty – the long “euve” is like a kind of verbal shrug. She is the classic European film star: impeccable and aloof.
After first attracting attention in Roman Polanski’s Repulsion, Deneuve was sent into the firmament by Belle du Jour. Directed by Luis Buñuel, the film depicted a bored Paris housewife who becomes a prostitute. Restrained and strange, the masterpiece is as powerful today as it was on release in 1967. Its Oscar-nominated star, now 70, has continued to make films with amazing consistency, and retained her impeccable manner on and off screen.
It hardly comes as a surprise, therefore, that Catherine Deneuve’s taste in property is equally refined. Her stunning Château de Primard in Guainville, just outside Paris, is sophistication itself.
“It is a real castle,” says Andrea Solo of LuxuryRealEstate.com, who is helping to sell the estate, which is on the market for £3.2 million. “It was built in the 18th century and still has many of the features from that time. Catherine also has a luxury apartment in the 6th arrondissement of Paris and uses this as her country retreat. It is her quiet place, where she goes to get away from the chaos of the city. It’s only 46 miles from Paris, so it is easy to get to.”
