Igor Haresh by profession manager and about taking up photography, he until a certain point did not even think. But once I saw the album of Henri Cartier-Bresson – and ever since photography, especially the street, has become an integral part of his life. Today Igor tells about himself to our Photo Vide magazine.
I am a manager, the world of photography was opened for me by my friend, showing me the album of Henri Cartier-Bresson. I began to shoot ten years ago. I studied the photo myself, bought albums, tried to repeat. Alexander Iosifovich Lapin’s book influenced me greatly. He finished one course at the Academy of Classical Photography (from the teacher Anton Gorbachev).
About street photography
I’m attracted to people. Their meditations, their joys and sorrows. They stand, go, think. City geometry is also of interest. Its rhythm, its complexity. I really like to show people – their feelings, emotions, experiences. I’ve tried many times to photograph architecture or a portrait – it’s absolutely not mine. I want to fix those moments in people’s lives, which we, perhaps, see every day, but do not pay attention to them.
Street photography is a drive. Someone is trying to get adrenaline while driving a car or jumping from a parachute. And I – photographing people in the market or in the subway.
About black and white photography
I read many interviews with photographers who shoot in black and white. Everyone explains in different ways his attachment to black and white photography. I honestly say that, in my opinion, it is easier. It’s easier to get what you want in black and white. For me, color photography is difficult. I think I will devote the next 10 years to studying color.
About the weather
I am inspired by any weather, because in any weather you can find a story for shooting.
I’m lucky that I often have to travel on business trips. I just get up early in the morning before the meetings or take an extra day and walk around the whole city, if it’s small, all flea markets, sleeping areas. I can recall many trips, in which decent, in my opinion, pictures turned out. This is Beijing, and New York, and Smolensk, and London.
About the process of shooting
If the frame does not work and there is an opportunity, I return, but not always it is. There are situations when you have enough time, great conditions for shooting, but nothing comes out. It all depends on you. No mood – nothing happens.
About the criteria for a good photo
The criterion for a good photo is one – the time that the viewer spent viewing the photo.
Initially, I had a Canon 30D. Accordingly, I have many Canon lenses. There was a time when there was a strong desire to go to Nikon, but the mind persuaded not to go over so as not to spend a lot of money on glasses for Nikon again.
About the qualities necessary for a photographer
It all depends on what the photographer shoots. If the wedding photo, then you need some character traits, if shooting subjects – completely different. I’m a very emotional person. I think that it helps me more in photography.

Of Russian photographers inspire me Slyusarev, Mukhin, Maximishin. Of non-Russian – this is Cartier-Bresson, Koudelka, Kartesh.
