Tom Martin is a young English artist who makes use of acrylic paint to create the most amazing paintings. Looking at them you could swear they are simple photographs, but in reality they are painstakingly painted by hand.
“Tom Martin has been working as an artist for over five years now since finishing his education. He graduated in 2008 with first class honours in a BA degree course at the University of Huddersfield. Upon finishing his Degree in 2008, Martin was taken on by Plus One Gallery, London. He would participate in their Summer Show, ‘Exactitude IV’ and Art London that year. Since which he has regularly been included in group shows. He has been published on numerous occasions, perhaps most notably in ’Exactitude: Hyperrealist Art Today’ by Thames & Hudson and Plus One publishing in 2009. The same year would also see him execute his first solo show in London. At 27 years old, Martin is only just beginning to hit his stride, but his work is already part of important collections worldwide.
In 2012 he met HRH Prince Charles to discuss his work to date. 2012 would prove a crucial year for Martin, as he would participate in several shows in London, in addition to gaining worldwide exposure. He was part of exhibitions last year in Melbourne, Montreal and also in New York at the Louis. K. Meisel gallery.
Tom Martin lives with his partner at their home in the UK. He recently built and moved into a brand new studio space and is working on a new body of work towards his next solo show in October 2013 at Plus One Gallery. Martin hopes to continue showing his work worldwide.”
