For his photo project “Back to the Garden” Steve Davis chose only one criterion: he photographed only those people who consider themselves to be hippies of the 21st century. Picking up the relevant characters for the project, he made a vivid portrait on a white background, like his characters – the saints. Despite the very different past and present of these people, all of them in today’s realities was able to connect with the philosophy and lifestyle of the hippie movement. Davis’ photo project reflects the idea that the hippie culture is anachronistic and, on the other hand, argues that the movement is still alive today.
