On the eve of the Games in Sochi in GUM opened a unique exhibition of the Olympic Winter Games torch from the personal collection of the Prince of Monaco Albert II.
Torch – the most famous Olympic symbol and the main protagonist of Olympic torch relay. Its design is developing the most fashionable offices around the world. The tradition of lighting the Olympic flame existed in ancient Greece and reminded of the heroism of Prometheus, who gave fire to people.
In the modern history of the Olympic Games torch lit for the first time in 1928 in Amsterdam, and in 1936 in Berlin, the first Olympic relay. Since then, the main baton Olympics every four years, changed its colors, sizes and styles. Thus, the torch Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, coined the famous Philippe Starck, was a length of only 41 cm And the torch from Vancouver artists of Bombardier reached almost a meter in height.
Many believe that the participants in the relay transmit to each other the same torch. In fact, it is a transfer of fire, and no torch.
