Controversial Illustrations that Reflect Modern Society by Gunsmithcat

Spanish artist Gunsmithcat (aka Luis Quiles) look innocent enough, until you look a little closer. His work is a unique combination of real-life events and current affairs blended with numerous pop culture references from the world of film, gaming, TV and technology.

His illustrations are somewhere between edgy and inappropriate, denuding problems like sexism, homophobia, violence, misogyny and the abuse of social networks and technology. He uses the most visually striking way he can without warranting censorship (though he’s run into it before).

These artworks really prove that sometimes, when you want to describe sensitive issues to your audience, you have to omit the subtleties.

  1. Well it’s a critique on society, and those are fair points as to women’s roles and discriminatory roles in today’s “modern world”.
