Beautifully Surreal Portrait Series Blended into Landscape Photos by Antonio Mora.
Spanish artist Antonio Mora specializes in creating dream-like self-portraits blended with landscapes and other imagery. The results are similar to double-exposure photography, except these images are superimposed digitally. Mora even does custom ‘dream portraits’ for people if they provide an image of themselves along with some information so he can derive some associated imagery to blend with.
Mora writes on his website that his “originality takes root in the merger, in finding combinations that leave in the palate of our conscience flavors of evocation and mystery.” The bodies-in-nature images contain the type of unsettling-yet-tranquil beauty that would make a variety of fashion directors lick their lips.
Unlike a typical fashion photographer, though, Mora offers anyone the chance to have their own portrait manipulated into surreal forms. If you send a photo of yourself and write something about your personality, the artist will send over a personalized dream portrait in just a few days.
Mora integrates the separate elements seamlessly, matching them so that they look like one cohesive image. Sometimes, we’ll see that a plant is contained perfectly within the shape of the face, but the artist isn’t afraid to make his images more playful. A chaotic set of brushstrokes have a mind of their own when attached to someone’s head, and Mora even has them cleverly framing the model’s chin. It’s moments like this where his skilled handiwork makes us believe that we’re looking at some strange, hybrid being.
